Abstract : Praise be to Allah, peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. This thesis has dealt with one of the most prominent figures of the Muslim Uma during the second Abbasid era: Imam Abu Bakr Ibn Al-Munthir Alnesabouri (242 AH - 318 AH) who had narrated nearly ten thousand Hadiths (sayings of the Prophet) in his book Al-awsat. This research aims to highlight the efforts of Ibn Al-Munthir in the scrutiny of his documentation of Hadith, and to compare it with the provisions of other Imams (scientists). The research is divided into an introduction and two sections. Firstly, through the researcher’s discussion of Imam Ibn Al-Munthir’s biography, while mentioning his era, translations and writings. Then, through introducing his book Al-awsat, with its’ main features, methodology and terminology. As for the second section, an applied study of the Hadiths, which were identified by Ibn Al-Munthir, including his two books Tahara and Funerals, and a study of the merits of Ibn Al-Munthir and translation of his scholars, speeches from his famous nine books, summarizing the dispute in jurisprudential matter contained in Hadiths, and the collection of the sayings of scholars unanimously. It includes three hundred and seventy-eight Hadiths. The research methodology incorporates an analysis of Hadith, relying mainly on the interpretations of Ibn Al-Munthir. Among the most important findings of the research was the adaptability of Ibn Al-Munthir’s style in this field, which signifies extreme investigation prior to judgment and validation through common features, either weak or proper (fixed), which was the predominant term used for judging the validity of each Hadith. It was noticed that Ibn Al-Munthir was on common ground with other imams in judgement of Hadith, with minor discrepancies. This study recommends further extraction of Hadith from the complete collection of the works of Ibn Al-Munthir’s book Al-awsat. What has been revealed through this research is just the tip of the ice-berg, and further interest should be taken into the achievements and classifications of Ibn Al-Munthir.
