Medical knowledge management is considered as valuable strategic assets that can improve medical performance. Thus, it is essential to investigate what are the needed requirements for applying Knowledge management in the medical sector. We will investigate which are the enablers for promoting this Knowledge management: (people, organization, process, and system perspectives). However, knowledge management strategies present tools to utilize the available knowledge to upgrade hospitals healthcare. As known, Knowledge management requires management strategies that must integrate with the medical performance. Therefore, application of Knowledge management theory must be clearly clarified to determine effective ways of utilizing knowledge resources and capabilities available in both within and outside the medical organization.
This study will use the multi case study methodology, and it will examine a sample of governmental hospitals in Jeddah. The five objectives of the study are: monitoring the status of knowledge management applications at Jeddah hospitals, identifying the staff orientations towards the implementation of knowledge management, and monitoring the obstacles that may face knowledge management applications in hospitals. Moreover, determine the requirements for knowledge management implementation at Jeddah hospitals. Finally, we will put together a proposed action plan for the knowledge management implementation at Jeddah’s hospitals.
The study results have answered its four main questions. First, the results showed that there’s amenability by 70.00% for knowledge management implementation Jeddah hospitals. Also, the results showed that hospital staff have the awareness and understanding towards a knowledge management implementation in the rate of 69.30%. Moreover, results have confirmed the existence of obstacles (regulatory, human, technical and other obstacles) by the rate of 88.33% according to the respondents. Furthermore, the study reported several requirements for the knowledge management implementation at Jeddah’s hospitals which had been agreed on by 96.50% according to the respondents. Finally, the researcher has pointed out some recommendations that may help in the knowledge management implementation in the health sector; through developing infrastructure, regulatory, human recourses and technical aspects in the Ministry of Health. |
