Abstract
:
First of all, praise and thanks be only to Allah. There is no god but Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the chosen Prophet Muhammad and his righteous family and companions. This research tackles the idea of the absence of social linguistic studies of Al-Jahiz, which led to the failure to utilize these efforts by many scholars. This research shows the contributions of Al-Jahiz in social linguistic studies and it shows what Al-Jahiz added in this field to what the recent linguistic studies have added in order to know the status of Arab contributions in the linguistic map in general. The research aims to: 1. Identify the efforts of Al-Jahiz in studying linguistic variations related to modern linguistics. 2. Recognize the linguistic variations observed by Al-Jahiz through linguistic phenomena. 3. Recognize the role of linguistic diversity in enriching Arabic. Among the most prominent findings of the research are the following: Al-Jahiz depends on the social criterion when presenting social functions and people who have different professions. This social criterion is considered essential in the classification of linguistic variations among dialectics and social linguists. Al-Jahiz agrees with dialect scholars concerning the geographical criterion, which is the basis in the classification of linguistic variations. This agreement is inferred from Al-Jahiz's books mentioned in the Linguistic Atlas, which is divided according to adjacent areas and which talks about the influence of regional dialects on Arabs' eloquence and and refers to the linguistic background they belong to.
