Learning Management Systems (LMS) aim to improve education in several tertiary level educational institutes. It has been adopted by several Middle East universities, including King Abdulaziz University (KAU), but the technology is yet to reach its full potential. In KAU, Blackboard is used as a LMS to support the education process. Moreover, there is a level of student resistance and it is essential to explore the students’ acceptance factors. Thus, this research aims to determine and explore the critical factors that influence a student’s acceptance to use Blackboard in KAU in Saudi Arabia as well as develop the conceptual research model using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. The research proposed a model involves independent variables: “Effort Expectancy (EE), Performance Expectancy (PE), Perceived Functionality (PF), Facilitating Condition (FC), Social Influence (SI), and the dependent variables including: Behavioral Intention to use (BI), and Usage Behavior”. Perceived Functionality (PF) construct was used to extent the model. The data were collected using online questionnaires among undergraduate and graduate students at KAU from different colleges and departments. The data were analyzed using different statistical techniques including regression analysis, structural equation-modelling (SEM) and correlation. The results indicate that performance expectancy, perceived functionality, facilitating condition and social influence were significant and had a direct influence on students' behavioral intention to use Blackboard. While the main determinants of intention to use are performance expectancy and the facilitating conditions is the second highest predictor of students’ acceptance and use of Blackboard. Further, the study found that effort expectancy does not impact the student's behavioral intention. This research provides a theoretical contribution that support educational institutions to enhance the acceptance of students when using LMSs. |
