Abstract
:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the functional requirements of ironing workers’ uniform in garment factories and to set standards to achieve the protection and safety characteristics of the uniform according to the anthropometric measurements to suit the nature of performance and job tasks as well as measuring the effect of the uniform on the ironing workers performance. The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach in analyzing the work tasks and uniform needs of the ironing workers and it utilized the semi-experimental approach in measuring the uniform impact on the performance of workers under study. The study sample consisted of ironing workers in garment factories. The instruments of the study included the following: questionnaires, observation and workers’ productivity form. The results of the study showed the possibility of determining the uniform functional requirements according to the analysis of the workers' common issues towards the current uniform and the considerations of choosing workwear. As for the impact of the uniform on the performance, the results revealed that the productivity of the ironing worker studied after using the proposed uniform exceeds the productivity before using it, which confirms the existence of statistically significant differences between the ironing worker productivity before and after wearing the proposed uniform. Among the recommendations of the study; Conducting further studies to determine whether the clothing needs of the workers different from those in different areas of the study and adopting the approach used (DeJonge method) as an approach for designing functional clothing to find innovative solutions to the workwear problems. Keywords: Functional design, ironing worker, Protection, Thermal comfort
