The study aims at reaching a proposed model to activate the role of “knowledge management” in improving the performance of scientific research deanships in Saudi universities. This was implemented first, by determining the extent to which employees in scientific research deanships understand the concept of knowledge management and its role in improving performance. Second, by identifying the role of knowledge management in improving the performance of scientific research deanships through the personnel dimension, operations dimension, and organizational dimension. Finally, by preparing a proposed model to activate the role of knowledge management in improving the performance of scientific research deanships in Saudi universities.
To achieve these study objectives, the researcher used the content analysis method to analyze the intellectual production of the studies that dealt with the subject of the study, and the Delphi method, using the opinions of a group of experts from the deanships of scientific research in Saudi universities namely (12) experts from (9) Saudi universities. The study reached a number of results, the most prominent of which were the following: The overall weighted arithmetic mean of the knowledge management operations axis was (2.48 out of 3) with a “very important” degree. The standard deviation of the total expressions Axis was (0.35). The results also showed that the most important knowledge management processes are knowledge creation, knowledge application, knowledge sharing, and knowledge storage and investment. The overall weighted arithmetic mean of the performance improvement axis was (2.55 out of 3), with a “very important” degree, and the standard deviation of the total axis phrases was (0.38). Moreover, the results showed that the organizational performance dimension got an arithmetic mean (2.65 out of 3), followed by the operations dimension with an average arithmetic of (2.64 out of 3), and finally the dimension of employees with an arithmetic mean (2.36 out of 3).
The study ended up with some recommendations, namely: Including the knowledge aspect and its implementation approaches within the strategic and development plans of the Deanship of Scientific Research. Adopting the method of knowledge management and enabling various administrative methods to transfer the environment of the Deanship of Scientific Research to a knowledge environment in which knowledge initiatives grow, such as transferring knowledge and sharing it with other deanships at the university.
