Abstract |

The range of hybrid propulsion hulls and power supplies has expanded in response to the recent trend toward more efficient and adaptable ship design. However, intelligent control strategies are necessary to improve performance with these structures, as most current control methods are traditional. The first section of this research focuses on comparing mechanical, electrical, and hybrid propulsion for ships. To examine the capabilities and problems of these systems and their associated controls, we review developments in propulsion systems, power supplies, and control methodologies.
The second section aims to create a hypothesis for a realistic ship that operates with a hybrid propulsion engine, taking all necessary specifications into account for making the required calculations to determine the percentage improvements in performance, fuel consumption, and reduced emissions resulting from the ship. We conclude that a suggested solution for reducing CO2 emissions from ships and achieving the energy efficiency design index (EEDI) is to utilize a hybrid propulsion system that combines liquefied natural gas (LNG) with liquid hydrogen (LH2). This solution takes into consideration several factors, including compliance with EEDI standards, fuel ratio optimization, installation requirements, safety precautions, and economic feasibility. |
