Abstract : This thesis is dealing with the study of Hijazi merchants class and their role in Mamlukes era during the period 667–923H (1268-1517G) , as those merchants contributed and participated effectively in all that era social, scientific, political, economical and historical developments, and their place has emerged through the roles played by all Hijazi merchants in the area whether Hijazi indigenes merchants or foreign merchants .And summarized the result of research in showing Hijazi merchants class role in a clear and inclusive manner. Beside knowing Al Hijaz Traders types like permanent traders, lodgers neighbours traders, generous traders and others, and explaining their most important role is presented in booming the economical life in Hijazi in that period, the volume of their imports by ships existing in Hijaz, their presence in political events theatre and their relation with Hijazi Sharifs. They had possessed enormous wealth cash, real estate, ships and others, which led Hijazi sharifs longing for their properties during the crisis periods of the merchants. Those merchants contributed to the enrichment of knowledge as they embarked on learning and travel, to acquire knowledge and learn different subjects and they contributed to writing and authorship, their presence as a social class having effect and prominent role in social life and community development was clear in their merging in social life. They participated effectively in all social events in Hijaz. They contributed to charity and beneficence works represented in establishments of endowments, public fountains and shelters, offering alms and assisting needy and widows and helping people in facing natural disasters and social and political crisis occurred in Hijaz , and their attitude to the main disasters that Al Hijaz traders faced while practicing their road and sea trade. The researcher followed in this research the historical research methodology based on collecting the academic material form preliminary sources and available references about the subject, analysis of this material and examine it closely to reach the most important study findings.
