Abstract : The genus Echinococcus is of great importance because it can cause the cystic echinococcosis(CE) ,or , hydatid cyst disease. This disease is one of the serious parasitic diseases that may lead to death and only can be treated surgically. This disease can bring a lot of economical loss to livestock and can cause serious ill health in man.The genus Echinococcus contains a number of zoonotic species. there are at least 4 species in the genus. This research aimed to study the epidemiology of this dangerous disease in the local and imported livestock (By using statistical methods for analyzing the numbers of infections and prevalence of the disease among one year (1431HD). In addition of performing histopathological and histochemical studies to were perfomed to reveal the effect of the parasites on host tissues including liver, heart and skeletal muscle fibers. The present study has been demonstrated that the prevalence of the cystic echinococcusis in the year 1431HD was highest in camels with percentage of 34.64% followed by cattle (28.70) then goats (15.11%) and the least sheep (10.06%) in both local and imported livestock. By using 2 Chi square test for analyzing the collected data revealed that there was an important significant change between the level of prevalence and the type of livestock, and another significant change between the level of prevalence in the fourth quarter of the year against the three quarters of the same year, also the present study showed that the level of CE prevalence had been increased from the previous years before the year of the present study, but the presence of disease infection and its prevalence proves that this echinococcosis remains as an international public health challenge, the parasite histopathological effect on the liver was same as that ocurred in the liver and included: presence of granuloma, eosinophilia and some changes in the cells including cloudy swelling, fatty changes and necrosis. These histological changes were achieved using digital Image Analysis Software on the sections images of the infected tissues and it have been demonstrated many significant histopathological and histochemical changes on the host tissues
