Abstract : Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) is a good method for shifting radiation wavelength into different spectral regions which opens the door to new applications. Moreover, the intensity resulting from SRS processes can be strongly amplified by enhancing SRS lines with the assistance of atomic lines. This work is aimed to construct a numerical model to simulate the process of Enhanced SRS (ESRS). This process occurs when exciting laser energy is above the dissociation limit of the Raman medium. Constructing the model involved solving coupled differential equations that describe the interaction of radiation with matter for this process, in addition to other processes that might contribute to the enhancement of the Stokes lines. The program was applied to the Raman medium of H2 gas. Four different laser wavelengths were used as a laser excitation sources. These were 742, 532 and 355 nm which are below the dissociation limit of H2 gas. In addition, the fourth harmonic of the Nd:YAG laser, 266 nm, was used which its energy is above the dissociation limit of H2 gas. A comparision between simulated and experimental results were undertaken which showed good agreement. This concluded that the proposed model, by taking stimulated emission into consideration, was a good explaination for the high conversion efficiency of some Stokes lines. It also aided in the understanding of the enhancement process. It is recommend to use ESRS method to selectively amplify the intensity resulting from SRS. This work can be extended to other gases as Raman media to search for new laser sources.
