Abstract : The underachievement of the preparatory year students in the English program courses has raised concerns amongst teachers and administrators. Differentiated instruction (DI) is a way of enhancing students’ achievements by meeting their needs. This study examines awareness and practice of differentiation strategies by university preparatory EFL teachers at King Abdulaziz university. The research questions posed in this study aims to explore teachers’ practices and awareness of DI, and if experienced teachers differ from novice teachers in their awareness and practice. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered through classroom observations, interviews, and a questionnaire. The participants are teachers who teach at the preparatory year program at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The findings indicate that these teachers exhibit a high degree of awareness and practice of DI strategies, and that having more years of teaching experience does not seem to be an evidence of making a significant difference in a teacher’s awareness and practice of DI.
