Abstract : This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of electronic flashcards on EFL students vocabulary learning. It also attempted to find out their perceptions of this instructional approach on the development of English vocabulary. Mixed methods research was employed following quasi-experimental design. The participants were forty-two preparatory-year female students at King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. Two groups were utilized: an experimental group who used electronic flashcards, and a control group who were not exposed to such usage. A pre-test and a post-test were administered in order to appraise their performance before and after the experiment. Students in the experimental group were, subsequently, requested to reflect upon their experience through a questionnaire of a five-point Likert scale and one-to-one interviews. The results revealed that the post-test scores of students in the experimental group were significantly higher than their pre-test. The results also showed that electronic flashcards promoted students vocabulary, causing a statistical significance in comparison to the control group. Additionally, learners held a very positive view towards the incorporation of this approach into EFL vocabulary learning and teaching. It was perceived as useful, enjoyable, and easy to use. Based on these findings, this study was able to draw a number of implications and propose several recommendations. Keywords: Electronic Flashcards, Vocabulary learning, EFL.
