Abstract This research is an attempt to go through the field of medical geography to give a geographical perspective on one of the most important chronic diseases in Makkah Al-Mukarramah city: the disease of kidney failure. Therefore, the present study examined the socioeconomic and health characteristics of the patients. The study relied on the descriptive analytical approach, considered as the most appropriate method for such studies, as the study relied in its sources on the data published in the annual statistical book, health bulletins, issued by the Ministry of Health, in addition to the available references and scientific theses related to the topic. The researcher also submitted two questionnaires, designed to collect the necessary data to complete the study. The first one was distributed to the randomized sample chosen from the study community of patients, in conjunction with their conducting hemodialysis procedures within the blood purifier’s devices inside the purification centers. The second questionnaire was distributed to the managers of dialysis centers in Makkah. The data obtained added a lot of vitality to the study after being processed statistically; it showed a statistical significant relationship between study variables and disease prevalence, which let the researcher consider that it could be a new scientific contribution to this study; also some of the study variables were compatible with the study hypotheses, which were already mentioned in the study proposal. Among the most important findings of the study, it found that about 85% of patients suffer from other diseases such as blood pressure, diabetes and viral hepatitis; also the study concluded with a number of recommendations. The most significant are to support and encouragement societies of donation from brain death, and to urge health authorities to conduct extensive awareness campaigns to warn and alert people who suffer from blood pressure and diabetes, to the dangerous complications |
