Abstract : Background: The prevalence of cancer is increasing globally, and the number of individuals with cancer has increased particularly in Saudi Arabia in recent years. Adherence to self-management practices (SMPs) is the cornerstone of cancer control and prevent acute and chronic complications. No research has examined SMPs and associated factors in adults' patients with cancer under treatment in Saudi Arabia. Aim: This study was carried out to assess the level of SMPs among patients with cancer under treatment, and determine factors that significantly associated with SMPs among those patients. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational design was used. A convenience sample of 130 adult patients with cancer under treatment from King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH) in Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia was recruited. The Self-Care Inventory (SCI), Strategies Used by People to Promote Health (SUPPH-29), and sociodemographic and clinical surveys were completed by participants. Descriptive and inferential statistics and stepwise linear regression analysis were performed. Results: The total mean score for SMPs was 84.38±13.66. Self-efficacy (SE) was identified as a strong influencing factor of self-management, earned a total score of 104.24±15.87. Stepwise regression analysis identified SE, age, and nationality as important influencing variables, explaining 57.6% of the total variance in SMPs. There were significant statistically differences in SMPs scores in relation to some of sociodemographic and clinical variables (age, nationality, education, and disease duration). Conclusions/Nursing Implications: The levels of SMPs to manage cancer treatment-related problems demonstrated by patients with cancer in this study were rated as a medium. Enhancing adherence to SMPs and increase (SE) through adopting educational intervention programs, considering sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics, and continuous patient education must be taken into consideration in the cancer management plan. Further self-management research in adults with cancer and the development of sound guidelines are required.
