Abstract : Aromatic compounds are considered the second widespread class of organic compounds in nature after carbohydrates. They are among the most persistent and ubiquitous hazard pollutants in the environment, resulted from anthropogenic activities, and most of these components are highly toxic and carcinogenic. Therefore, the wide distribution of these compounds is critical problem thus there is require to their detection and removal from the contaminated regions are of great biotechnological interest to have a healthy living environment. Bacteria were isolated from contaminated area and examined for aromatic compounds degradation. The bacterial isolates were identified according to biochemical tests and molecular aspects (16s rRNA sequences). The efficiency of bacteria was tested which has ability degrade aromatic compounds (phenol, toluene, benzene, and xylene). The bacterial isolates obtained from contaminated areas were Staphylococcus epidermidis, Microbacterium paraoxydans and Enterobacter cloacae. Generally, Staphylococcus epidermidis showed good effect on benzene 14.2%, and Enterobacter cloacae were degraded xylene by 18.7%. While Microbacterium paraoxydans showed the best ability to consume toluene with high absorbance in 10 days by 36.6%.
