Abstract : The topic of biofuels in general, and biodiesel in particular, has garnered special attention from researchers, governments, and the industrial sector worldwide as substitutes for fossil fuels to reduce dependence on it. Biodiesel is fatty acid methyl esters produced from triglycerides of vegetable oils and animals. It has various advantages such as renewability, is toxic-free, and has low sulfur, also proffering solutions to some energy crises and environmental problems caused by fossil fuels. Heterogeneous catalysts play an important role in the transesterification process owing to the advantages of separation and reusability. Moreover, these catalysts could develop a sustainable and industrially applicable path for clean biodiesel production from renewable oils. This work was proceeded to prepare novel heterogeneous catalysts via mechanochemical reaction of synthesized bimetal oxides that were prepared by a co-precipitation followed by hydrothermal treatment and CaO powder mixture that was synthesized by co-precipitation method. Then tested all catalysts in transesterification reaction for biodiesel production. The physicochemical characteristics of the materials were analyzed by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), x-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N2-physisorption, x-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the base properties by temperature-programmed desorption (TPD-CO2). The obtained novel catalysts (ZCO/CaO-30, NCO/CaO-30 and CCO/CaO-30) were highly efficient for the synthesis of biodiesel with tributyrin and methanol as raw materials. Furthermore, under the reaction conditions of catalyst dosage of 5 wt.%, methanol: tributyrin oil ratio of 12:1, reaction temperature 80 oC, reaction time 180 min, the ZCO/CaO-30 catalyst showed the better activity and stability, due to having more active basic sites. Comparing pseudo first- order reactions kinetic models, it was found that the experimental data and the pseudo-first-order kinetic model based on the reaction mechanism were in great agreement. Keywords: Biodiesel, Heterogeneous catalysis, Sustainable energy, Bimetal oxides spinel, CaO.
