Abstract : This research is concerned with the long sounds in terms of their importance, terminology, place of articulation, characteristics, relation to short vowels, the place of vowel within the consonant, the vowel before a long sound, and then the relation between the long sounds and diacritical marks in the abbreviated and defective nouns, Yā’a of the speaker (first person’s possessive pronoun), dual nouns, masculine plural, and al-’smā’ al-sittah (the six nouns). The research adopts the descriptive analytical method which indicates such acoustic relation and reviewing and analyzing -ancient and modern- views of linguists based on the phonological, morphological and syntactical facts, through the introduction which includes providing the research’s topic, problem, significance, questions raised, method applied, preface that defines the study definitions, that the researcher followed it by indicating the relation between phonology and syntax, long sounds and original marks, and long sounds and secondary marks. Therefore, the researcher came into the results indicate that the most relevant of the study is the relationship between the vowel sounds and i‘rāb (Inflection marks); It is a system of diacritical marks, that differs according to their acoustic duration to pronunciation. The findings of the study show that the Secondary marks are merely long vowels, resulting from phonetic changes in the abbreviated and defective nouns (manqūs and maqṣūr Noun), the six nouns, and the sound masculine plural, with the exception of alif (long vowel ā) in the case of nominative duals (muthanna); Its relationship with the original sign (ḍammah) is phonetically non-existent. Furthermore, the duals in accusative and genitive are depending on the parsing mark of the noun which is yā, followed by recommendations, the most significant of which is the adoption of the acoustical morphological analysis that has been built on deep forms. Hence, searching for general phonological rules that explain changes of long sounds upon being approached by short or long vowels. Keywords: Long Vowels, Defective Noun Inflections, Abbreviated Noun Inflections, Secondary Marks, Duals Inflections, Sound Masculine Plural Inflections, Six Noun Inflections
