Abstract : This thesis sought to examine the use of a weblog, a form of computer-based learning, in EFL writing and engagement at a private school in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This study used an explanatory sequential mixed-method research design, in which the first strand was quantitative and the second strand was qualitative. The quantitative phase included a statistical analysis of the scores gained in first and last writing assignment posts and a questionnaire to estimate EFL learners' perceptions of the use of blogs in learning writing and engagement. The qualitative phase was a semi-structured interview, which aimed to shed light on students' perceptions of the blog experience. The participants were 59 Saudi female high school students in eleventh grade. The results indicated no significant effect of blogs on EFL writing. However, the study participants showed positive perceptions toward the implementation of blogs in EFL writing and engagement. The findings of this study provided insights into the effect of applying an interactive technological educational tool in teaching and learning writing, which may serve as guidelines for future studies and practical implementation in schools.
