Abstract : Background: The worldwide prevalence of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity is a worldwide concern. Statistics show a worldwide decline in maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality and morbidity, though many countries have not yet reached the range set by the sustainable development goal. It's a delicate time for mothers and newborns after giving birth. Birth and postpartum complications, as well as newborn warning signs, can suddenly manifest and lead to irreversible harm or even death if not addressed promptly. Numerous postpartum health problems Based on John Hopkins programs for international education in gynecology and obstetrics manual, There are postpartum complication newborn warning signs that could be dangerous for both the mother and the newborn. Having knowledge of the most common serious illnesses affecting mothers and babies, as well as the warning signs of illness, can help women avoid complications and save themselves and their newborn. Aim: Assessment of women’s awareness regarding warning signs of postpartum complications. Methods: An exploratory descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at East Jeddah Hospital on 372 postpartum women. An individual interview was conducted using a questionnaire sheet including three parts. PartI sociodemographic characteristics, PartII obstetric characteristics and PartIII the awareness level of obstetric warning signs which included 30 warning signs related to possible obstetric postpartum complications and 16 possible newborn warning signs. Results: Results Show that 64.2% of women are aware of maternal warning signs, while 35.8% are unaware. In regard to newborn warning signs, it was clear that more than half (56.5%) of women know newborn warning signs, while 43.5% don't know. Conclusion: Postpartum problems can be fatal if mothers don't recognize them. Postpartum issues and newborn warning signs are little researched in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf areas. Cardiac symptoms after birth are serious concerns, but many high-risk mothers don't understand them. The most common identified complication is postpartum hemorrhage. nurses must teach expectant mothers to recognize and respond to the warning signs. Also, there is a need for clear postpartum care guidelines for high-risk women. All nurses must follow such guidelines.
