Abstract : The current study aimed at recognizing the emotional regulation and self-compassion, and their relationship with perceived stigma among a sample of mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder in Abha. It also aimed at revealing the predictability of perceived stigma through emotional regulation and self-compassion, and revealing the differences in levels of emotional regulation, self-compassion, and perceived stigma among the study sample, according to some demographic variables (mother's age, mother's educational level, and family's economic level). The study adopted the descriptive approach with its two aspects; the correlational and the comparative. The sample of the study consisted of (172) mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder in Abha. The researcher used the Emotional Regulation Scale, prepared by (Izadpanah, Barnow, Neubauer, & Holl, 2019) and translated by the researcher, the Self-Compassion Scale, prepared by (Neff, 2003) and translated by (Alzahrani & Alsayed, 2019), and the Perceived Stigma Scale, prepared by (Mitter, Ali, & Scior, 2018) and translated by the researcher, as tools of the study. The results indicated the existence of a negative correlational relationship between emotional regulation and perceived stigma, and the contribution of emotional regulation in predicting perceived stigma, as well as a negative correlational relationship between self-compassion and perceived stigma, and the contribution of self-compassion in predicting perceived stigma. In addition, there were not any statistically significant differences in emotional regulation, self-compassion, and perceived stigma, according to the following demographic variables (mother's age, mother's educational level, and family's economic level). Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommended the preparation of training and rehabilitating programs for mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder aiming to develop emotional regulation and self-compassion skills in order to help them in confronting different pressures, and the preparation of an educative guide for families of individuals with autism spectrum disorder including how to deal with psychological and social effects of perceived stigma.
